The roach and the spider would be there as a demonstration of the harmony between the animals as Isaiah 11: 6-9 states. The roach wouldn’t harm the spider, and the only thing that a spider would use its web for would be to wrap up a fly that was feeling the cold so that they could last the winter.

That was the original purpose of a spider having a web. It caught fly’s for their own good. It was only after the flood that they thought about eating a fly. Before then a spiders web was like a ‘fly hotel’. They would be caught and put to bed in a nice hand spun duvet. And if the fly had trouble sleeping it would use its venom to help the fly get some ‘shut eye’ over the cold season.

What a far cry creation is from the way that god originally intended it to be. Are you not looking forward to the new system where everything will live in perfect harmony…….??

How important is alcohol to you?

i feel i drink too much and it concerns me sometimes.

i'm not an alcoholic (isn't that what an alcoholic would say?

) and i never drink in large quantities but if i don't have a glass of wine or a good real ale in my hand of an evening i feel disappointed.

Surly the question would be "why would you want to go to a meeting of JW’s unless it was to repent and turn around. If you have left, why would you want to return "like a dog to it’s vomit"? (2 Peter 2:22)

I think from the context of what was said, the guy behind the camera had caused trouble in the family and now his cousin was worried that he was going to cause more by attending, which I suspect would have been the case. I think that you are asking for trouble if you don’t dress for the occasion. You will stand out like a sore thumb.

Personally, I would try to do anything not to go to one of those things ever again. I hated it so much when I had to go and I am so pleased that I don’t anymore. But we would all know the rules of going back, and this guy wasn’t following them.

I don’t see what any of it proved. It doesn’t take much to antagonise a JW anyway, but what is the point. We all know how unreasonable they are and the hypocrisy of it all, we learned that when we were going. It is needless to want to prove it again.

That is a very interesting article….

I have noted a few of these types dotted around the corridors of this forum. (although I would say that most of them are men, not women)

It is especially evident when some posters are trying to prove atheism. Have noted many times that when some people confess a belief or faith, they are usually subject to this kind of tactic and treatment.

Very noticeable with JW’s, although it can go unrecognised there because of the acting that is associated with the belief system. Humility is acted, but dogma and control lies underneath very often.

Very often it is driven by low self-esteem and insecurity, but I am undecided if low self-esteem is present when it comes to the quality of arrogance. It is the old debate as to weather a superiority complex is really an inverted inferiority complex……

Do you hate elders and ex-elders?

do you think they all ended up being elders because they were ambitious and loved to exercise authority over others?.

or do you realize that each elder has his own story and that some became elders under great pressure?.

do you really think that all of the elders enjoyed participating in judicial committees?.

Used to have a friend when I was a JW who I used to talk to if I ever had any problems. Very tuned in bloke. Very helpful and understanding and we got on well.

He was made an elder and gradually became useless in his ability to help. He became distant and stopped voicing his honest opinion on things. Started to talk like an elder in the end, but then, I suppose, he really was an elder.

That transformation shows me that these people can be fine, up until they get appointed. Then the society fills their head with ‘bull shy’, and moulds them into people that innately are not.

I got angry with him sometimes because of how he changed and then just stopped talking things through with him. Sad thing is he pushed himself too far and ended up getting D’fd. He was a nice chap…

As a kid I quite liked it.

I never did FS, my parents didn’t do everything to the book (used to take me and my brothers out on motorcycles and things like that). Gave us a lot of space…

I was not on the school for long, although the small time that I was I hated it. Talking of which, first talk I ever gave: Song of Solomon Chapter 2. I can recall it to this day. I was 8 or so when I gave it. Didn’t understand a word. Might be the reason why I hated it from then on.

It was a good congregation that did social functions all the time, great when you’re a kid.

And meetings were a joy because when the congregation split ( I was about 9 or 10 ), the most gorgeous girl moved into our hall. Spent most of the meeting ogling at her. She was stunning. I did end up going out with her. Really crap kisser and as dull as a grey sky. Lesson learned: looks mean fu*k all….What a let down…..Bikes were much more fun……..

I was also quite an endearing child and used to go around looking all innocent, trying to get as many sweets from the old folk as possible. It really worked well. Rotted away my first set of teeth. They loved me………

Then, when I went back after we had fallen away for many years, what a change had happened. Someone said about the 80’s. Such a difference between the end of the 70’s and the beginning of the 90’s. Never fitted in with the congregation and was so aware of all of the hypocrisy and hurt that people were suffering, and could see the no one really gave a shit…….

Hate the ministry, despite all of my efforts. Never was on the TMS. Learned a lesson from my youth. There was no real social function. Back biting. Lack of love. Don’t know how I lasted so long…..

So two different sides to being a JW. Never should have gone back but I missed the good times from when I was a kid, and the security of it all. Found out the hard way that there is no security there at all….and never really was….
